Monument to Heroes of Independence War

The monument to the heroes of Independence War was unveiled on August 14, 1921, near the Kauhajoki church. The monument carved from gray granite was designed and made by sculptor Pauli Aaltonen.

The monument is inscribed:

"For those who fell for the freedom of the Fatherland"

"1918"

“Who leads the steps of the nation, the country.
It is the Lord,
Only the arrows for His bow
We were.”

The names of 56 fallen heroes are engraved on the base of the monument, of which four died in Olonets Karelia.

Kaarle Emil Frösén (11.12.1901 – 23.04.1919) and Yrjö Johannes Kuja-Halkola (11.01.1901 – 23.04.1919) fell on the same day in the Megrega Village.

Jaakko Wiljami Luomanen (27.01.1899 – 09.06.1919) fell in the Nurmoila Village.

Sulo Bernhard Keski-Nummi (19.04.1902 – 30.06.1919) fell in the Vidany Village.
