Ethnographic map of European part of Russia

In 1851, Russian ethnographer of German ancestry, Academician Peter von Köppen published the first ethnographic map of European part of Russia.

For this work he was awarded the Zhukov Prize of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (1852) and the Konstantin Gold Medal of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (1854).
