The State National Park Paanajärvi is situated on north-western Karelia in Louhi district.
Before The II World War this unique islet of nature had a reputation for Finnish Switzerland. The famous artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela repeatedly paid his attention to unique landscapes of this region of Finland.
The National Park Paanajärvi was founded in 1992. The most of all are known Paanajärvi Lake and Noorunen Mountain.
Some individuals of flora and fauna, that you can meet in National Park borders, are under State Protection.
