Viktor Svaetichin

1907. Salmi. Miinala Village

Finnish artist Viktor Svaetichin was born in 1877 in the so-called Yusupov Manor in the Tulema Village – the administrative center of Salmi Parish, in the family of a local Lensmann. His family's native language was Swedish.

In the 1890s, Svaetichin studied at the drawing school of the Vyborg Society of Friends of Art and at the drawing school of the Finnish Art Society in Helsinki. In addition to painting, he was also interested in photography.

Starting from the end of the 19th century, Viktor Svaetichin painted the most remarkable buildings and city views of the Vyborg Gubernia. His works are photographically accurate pictures of buildings and landscapes.
