Direct train connection Helsinki – Äänislinna

A direct civilian railway connection from Helsinki to Äänislinna via Sortavala was opened. Until now, the railway connection from Sortavala has only been southbound. From now, the service is open in all directions. For example, a train arriving from Helsinki to Sortavala at 13:42 will leave for Matkaselkä at 14:30 and arrive there at 16:30. At Matkaselkä it splits into trains to Joensuu departing at 16:50 and to Äänislinna departing at 17:03. The train arriving in Sortavala from the south at night at 23:54 continues at 00:30 and arrives at Matkaselkä at 02:13. From there it departs to Joensuu at 03:50 and to Äänislinna at 03:03.

Sortavala train schedule at the moment is as follows:

Train arrivals: 02:00 from north, 13:42 from south, 16:00 from north, 23:54 from south.

Train departures: 0:30 northbound, 2:42 southbound, 14:30 northbound, 16:30 southbound.
