Again, we are horse riding on narrow trail through forests and swamps. I’ve got too far into Korelia, almost to Finland. It was time to get back to the main road to Petrozavodsk, which we left way back in Olonets. We went across to Tulomozersky plant coal station, that was 50 versts away from it. The distance was not lengthy, but the ride was long and tiresome. There were no stops on this 50 versts stretch. Finland penetrates like a wedge into Olonets Gubernia. On our way across this wedge, we passed only one tiny Finnish village with tiny low huts and entered into endless forest, which gave way only to sinking marsh… Translated by Margarita Matthew, 2024 |
