Geographic description of the border.According to the geodesy measurements, made, according to His Majesty command, in 1839 and 1840, during demarcation of the Finnish border, the border line between Petrozavodsk and Povenets uezds and Finland is 389 versts 489 sazhens, of them 97 versts 204 sazhens along Petrozavodsk uezd and 292 versts 285 sazhens along Povenets uezd. Along this line the Finnish border goes from the south to the north between following settlements: On the right side: In Petrozavodsk uezd.

On the left side: In Viborg Gubernia, Salma uezd.
In Kuopio gubernia, Ilomantsi uezd.
In Pelis-järvi uezd.
In Uleåborg Gubernia, Kajani uezd.
From the junction with Olonets uesd the border goes mainly by heights, near the settlement Megilambi, the border crosses the river Shuja, which, together with adjoining brook Korunga-oja, itself serves as a border in its part. Then the border crosses the path from Pura to Eloniemi. Near Korbozero it crosses the river Shuja for the second time and near Pusunvaara – for the third time. Here it also crosses the road from Masselga to Suojärvi cast-iron mills; then the border goes through the lakes Lapin-järvi, Kuikolambi, Nais-järvi, Irsta and Unus-järvi, where it meets the border between Petrozavodsk and Povenets uezds. Thereon the border goes through the Shvaltozero lake, by the Kuima brook and crosses paths going from Kostomuksa to Salli-järvi and Livus-vaara. From the Unus-järvi lake to the path from Kostomuksa to Salli-järvi the border goes mainly by the marshlands. Near this path, to the left of the border, there ends the Viborg gubernia and begins the Kuopio gubernia. Here the border again goes through the heights, crossing the lakes Megri-järvi and Lower-Savnja-järvi, the path from the village Svinaja-gora to Vustoniemi, the Kimo brook, the Virmo-järvi lake, the Amuzh brook, the Vaska river, the lakes Palo-järvi and Kambulambi and the Siverka river, from which to the Runna settlement the border again goes by marshes, crossing the Galli-joki river, the lakes Erkozenlambi, Forth, Third, Second, First and Upper Gabo-järvi and Korbilambi. Further on the border crosses the Lioki river, which, in part, itself serves as a border and then the lakes Koko-järvi and Rigalambi and the Tulijoki river. From Runna the border again goes through the heights, crossing twice the Lashei brook and then the lakes Saari-järvi, Pitkovalma and Muldinolambi; Not far from Gonzeri-järvi settlement, on the left side the border meets the line separating Kuopio gubernia from Uleåborg gubernia. Then the border crosses the Mentenvaara brook, paths from Alimainen to Kolvas-ozero and Kashki-navolok, the Vertenlambi lake, the Roga river, the path from Rovkala to Kieki, the lakes Sarnenlambi, Roikutuslambi and Gongolambi, and crosses twice the path from Kivikieki to Vikola. At last, on its right, near the lake Dolgoe the border meets the line separating the Olonets gubernia from Archangelsck one, marking the end of the part of Finnish border line, described here. |
